Alison S. Kurtzman

Alison Kurtzman is a graduate of the Broadcast and Digital Journalism program at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.  Alison graduated summa cum laude (GPA: 3.87) with a B.S. Dual Degree in Broadcast Journalism and Psychology. She currently works for Kaplan as a Communications Manager.

Before entering the world of public relations and corporate communications, Alison worked in broadcast news, most recently at i24NEWS as the Senior Coordinating Producer and primary Field Producer.  Previous to her time there, she worked for Fox Business Network on Varney & Company. Alison got her start as a news producer in Albany, New York for WXXA Fox 23/WTEN ABC 10.  Alison also continues to provide assistance as a media consultant for theater company, Broadway Artists Alliance, having originally begun working for the company as a student intern.  She also does freelancing work for Public Relations firms and production companies. 

 

Alison has had a love for anything communications and media related since she was fourteen and began writing for her high school newspaper. Although she continued to write and edit her high school paper throughout high school, in her junior year she joined her school’s media club and discovered a love of film and broadcast journalism.

 

While in high school and college Alison held several internships. Three have been in local news at news stations in Albany and Syracuse, New York. Additionally, Alison broadened her producing perspectives by spending the summer of 2011 working for two production companies in New York City. Alison was honored to receive the Radio-Television News Power Producer award from the S.I. Newhouse School in May 2012, which commends the Broadcast Journalism senior who shows the strongest aptitude and most potential as a producer.

 

Alison was very involved with extracurriculars. She worked as a campus ambassador and part of the lead team of University 100, a select group of students who give tours to prospective students and serve as representatives of the campus. She also worked at the Empire State School Press Association (ESSPA) which holds a state-wide annual conference inviting local high school newspapers, literary magazines, and yearbooks to Newhouse. Alison volunteered at the Syracuse University Advocacy Center and was also a Newhouse Peer Adviser. Alison was also the Finance Director for First Year Players, an entirely student-run theater organization, where she prepared the budget and helped the organization to be fully funded for the first time in its history.

 

Alison is a self-proclaimed news junkie, pop culture enthusiast, and animal lover. She has four dogs, who live with her mom in Albany, and has been an avid horseback rider for the past ten years.   When she's not working, she can be found doing work with several community theater groups in Queens, including Royal Star Theatre, where Alison runs their communications and social media pages.
